Located north of Puerto Vallarta, this nice little town was settled in the 1930's by a family who built a ranch north of Banderas Bay. According to the legend, there was a giant Huanacaxtle tree with a large cross carved in it, so the locals mentioned it as an important reference point, thus keeping its name nowadays. La Cruz (which is the practical way locals name it), has become an important development area where the new Marina has been built. It's a beautiful setting for a walk and you can also watch the fishermen in a bustling and joyful atmosphere. The enjoyable and peaceful La Manzanilla beach is one of the best ones in the area, where swimmers can safely play in the shallow surf that reaches 100 feet into the sea.
